4 people were found dead on a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) train when it reached a Blue Line station in Forest Park, Illinois early Monday.
Authorities say the 4 train passengers appeared to be shot while they were sleeping in their seats. Forest Park is about 10 miles West of Chicagoland.
One CTA official who viewed surveillance footage of the mass shooting said it was hard to watch.
The incident happened before 5 a.m. Monday on 2 Blue Line train cars, officials said. The bodies were discovered after the train pulled into the Blue Line station at 711 Desplaines Avenue in Forest Park around 5:37 a.m.
Three people were pronounced dead on the train. One person died at a local hospital. CTA officials said all 4 were paying passengers.
The victims were asleep when the shooting began, and at least one victim woke up begged for their life.
Officials said the shootings happened when the train was in motion. They have not said where the train was located when the shootings occurred.
Forest Park police confirmed that a suspect had been taken into custody on the Pink Train line about 90 minutes away.
The victims names have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Police say the attack was random and none of the victims appeared to be targeted.
“This appears to be an isolated incident on this unfortunate day,” Forest Park Deputy Chief Chris Chin told reporters at a news conference on Sunday.
Chicagoland officials have been accused of a cover up. They claim the mass shooting did not happen within Chicago’s city limits.
But one person wrote on X.com (formerly Twitter), “[T]his is a Chicago crime not Forest Park … happened on CTA property and two CTA train cars … the Chicago Police Department provides law enforcement for the CTA.”
Mass Murder Cover Up on Chicago public transportation … from this report the killings happened on two train cars … And as you see the narrative now is that this happened in a suburb not the city to perpetuate the crime is down Democratic narrative … yeah, the train is owned… pic.twitter.com/SwltxjkC6T
