The former drug kingpin whose story bears similarities to the character Ghost in the TV series “Power” has filed a lawsuit against executive producer 50 Cent.
In his complaint, James “Ghost” St. Patrick Holland claims the “Power: Origins” storyline is too similar to his life journey from street dealer to drug kingpin.
Holland alleges that he detailed his life story in a CD called “Blasphemy” that he sent to “Power” creator Courtney Kemp.
Kemp is now a showrunner at Netflix.
Holland claims Kemp used his life experiences as inspiration for the “Ghost” character when she created the drama series “Power.”
Now, Holland seeks a billion-dollar settlement as payment for what he perceives as “intellectual theft.”
He wants a judge to halt the upcoming spinoff, “Power: Origins.”
Holland claims the spinoff’s marketing campaign could taint a potential jury pool and jeopardize his right to a fair trial.
But 50 Cent’s legal team cites the lawsuit’s potential impact on the “Power” universe, according to reports.
Holland is representing himself in court.
Rap mogul 50 Cent, showrunner Courtney A. Kemp, Starz, and Lionsgate are named as defendants in the lawsuit.
