Fantasia and Busta Rhymes are the most recent artists from the older generation to call out young concertgoers for being on their cell phones.

Fantasia, 40, chastised her young fans for being on their phones during her concert at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheater in Detroit on July 12.

“So I wanna tell you now we’re living in a world where y’all can’t have fun because you’ve been too busy trying to film stuff,” the American Idol winner told the crowd. “So wack now.”

She continued:

“And we as performers, we be up here working and y’all [gestures holding up phone]. You know the money that you pay in here tonight you could’ve done something else with it. So if you paid the money, you might as well get your [money’s worth].”

Rap legend Busta Rhymes also called out his fans for being rude and holding up their phones during his show.

“Ayo, forget them camera phones,” he told the crowd at the Essence Festival. “Let’s get back to interacting like humans. Put those weird devices down! I ain’t from that era. Forget your phone!”

Busta, 52, and Fantasia are from the era of polite appreciation of performers.
Back in the day fans bought concert tickets to watch artists perform.

Nowadays concertgoers spend most of the show texting or recording on their phones.

Comedian Dave Chapelle, 50, bans all cell phones at his shows for that reason.
