Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was hospitalized after being stabbed multiple times during an alleged altercation with a 69-year-old delivery truck driver in Indianapolis, according to footage obtained by the New York Post and statements from police.
Authorities say the incident occurred in an alleyway near downtown Indianapolis, where Sanchez reportedly confronted the older man over parking access. According to witnesses, the confrontation escalated into a physical fight, during which Sanchez allegedly bodyslammed the driver to the ground.
The driver told investigators that he was making a delivery when Sanchez ordered him to leave the area. When he refused, Sanchez allegedly attacked him. The driver said he then deployed pepper spray in self-defense before stabbing Sanchez several times in the chest.
Police say both men sustained significant injuries. The delivery driver suffered a deep facial wound that extended through his cheek and damaged his tongue, while Sanchez was seen in video footage stumbling and bleeding heavily before emergency crews arrived.
Sanchez has since been charged with felony battery and assault, while the driver’s role in the stabbing remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet indicated whether additional charges will be filed.
Mark Sanchez, 38, is best known for his time as the starting quarterback for the New York Jets, leading them to two AFC Championship appearances in 2009 and 2010. He retired from professional football in 2019 and later worked as a football analyst.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing as they review surveillance footage and interview additional witnesses.
