Ashanti and Nelly welcomed their first child together last month. The “Foolish” singer, 43, made the announcement on Instagram Wednesday with a photo and video of her postpartum body.
“Four weeks postpartum,” Ashanti said in the video. “You have no idea what this body can do.”
In the caption, she wrote: “Funny how life’s plans aren’t… always on time. lol. I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings! I’m so proud of my body for giving me my baby, baby, baby, baby, baby.”
Ashanti told Entertainment Tonight their son’s name is Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, and he was born on July 18, 2024. Kenkaide is Ashanti’s dad’s name.
The birth announcement comes 2 weeks after Nelly, 49, was arrested for possession of ecstasy at a casino in Missouri.
A Missouri State Trooper asked Nelly for his identification after the rapper won several casino jackpots.
When Nelly went to collect his winnings, he was searched by the officer who found ecstasy pills, also known as “Molly.”
The officer ran a search for warrants and found Nelly had an outstanding warrant for operating a vehicle without insurance in Maryland Heights in June 2018. The warrant was issued in December 2023.
The state trooper handcuffed Nelly and “felt compelled” to “parade him through the casino in front of other customers,” his attorney, Scott Rosenblum said.
