When asked about opening his heart to a man, August said his sexuality was determined by a higher power.
“To be honest with you, bro, it’s not even me that’s opening my heart. It’s that power that’s higher than myself,” he said. “I always say that the greatest gift that God could have ever given me was exposure. To expose me to so many different kinds of people, places, things. So, it’s like when people want you to define yourself as whether you’re gay, straight… Love is, like, much more complex and has much more depth.”
August went on to say “love is a language” and “I’m fluent in love as it speaks to me… You can’t take it personal because we haven’t all been exposed to the same thing. People have a very monolithic way of viewing things.”
August Alsina is best known for breaking up Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s happy marriage.
The R&B singer confirmed in 2020 that he was once in a relationship with Jada and that Will Smith gave him his blessing.
“I love those people like my family. I don’t ever have a bad thing to say about them. They are beautiful people,” August told Angela Yee in an interview.
Will and Jada now live separate lives.
