Beyonce’s camp gave Vice President Kamala Harris permission to use her song “Freedom” for her presidential campaign.
President Joe Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the presidential race on Sunday after testing positive for his third bout of Covid-19.
Biden endorsed Harris as the only woman who can beat Trump in November.
A source close to Harris told CNN that Beyonce’s representatives gave her team approval to use the song “Freedom” for her presidential campaign.
Via CNN — Beyoncé, who is known for maintaining strict clearance guidelines around her music, gave quick approval to Harris’ campaign when they sought permission to use “Freedom” on Monday — just hours before she walked out to the song, the source added.
While Beyoncé has not officially endorsed Harris in the days since President Joe Biden announced he would not seek a second term, granting her permission to use “Freedom” as a campaign song indicates that Harris has the superstar’s support.
Neither the Harris campaign nor a representative for Beyoncé responded to CNN’s requests for comment.
Beyonce’s mom, Tina Knowles, endorsed Harris in a post on her Instagram page.
Tina captioned the post:
“New, Youthful, Sharp, energy !!!! You asked for it and our President Biden did what was best for the country ! Putting personal Ego , power and fame aside . That is the definition of a great leader, . Thank you, President Biden for your service and your leadership . Go Vice President Kamala Harris for President. Let’s Go #kamala2024.”
