Bishop Lamor Whitehead Sentenced to 9 Years in Prison

A judge sentenced Bishop Lamor Miller-Whitehead to 9 years in prison following his conviction on fraud, attempted extortion, and lying to the FBI.

The sentence comes after Whitehead was convicted on multiple federal charges in March.

Judge Lorna Schofield of the Manhattan federal court handed down the sentence at a hearing on Monday, June 17.

“I don’t see any remorse for your conduct,” Judge Schofield said, according to the NY Daily News.

Bishop Whitehead, 46, was accused of stealing a parishioner’s $90,000 life savings and trying to extort a businessman.

He was also accused of lying on a bank application for a loan. Whitehead claimed he had millions in the bank.

The flashy preacher made headlines in 2022 when he was robbed at gunpoint during a livestream at the Leaders of Tomorrow International Church in Canarsie, Brooklyn.

The suspects robbed the bishop and his wife of $1 million in cash and jewelry. Police later arrested Juwan Anderson and Say-Quan Pollack on robbery, conspiracy and weapons charges.

A third robber, Shamar Leggette, 41, was killed in a shootout with police in South Brunswick on Jan. 24.

The bishop offered to eulogize Leggette at his funeral.

“I forgive him and I do want to extend my services to the family,” Whitehead said. “I would eulogize him, I will preach the service, whatever I can do in a pastor’s capacity, I will do it, free of charge.”

“My condolences really go out to his family,” he continued. “This is a sad situation where once again, we as African American people — it’s a cycle of destruction… It’s so senseless.”
