Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker “immediately” alerted Kansas team trainers after teammate, Brandon “BJ” Thompson, had a seizure and went into cardiac arrest.

The incident happened on Thursday, June 6, during a special teams meeting at the Chiefs’ training facility.

Medics rushed Thompson to a hospital where he is “alert and awake” and in stable condition.

The team praised Butker’s quick-thinking during a press conference on Friday.

“When [Thompson] had the seizure, Butker immediately ran towards the training room” and grabbed additional assistance from team staff,” said Chiefs VP of Sports Medicine and Performance Rick Burkholder.

“As a team, we tried to stabilize BJ and then put him on the floor while he was still seizing and then he went into cardiac arrest,” Burkholder said.

Butker sparked outrage after his commencement speech at Benedictine College on May 11.

He said a woman’s rightful place is to be married and a stay-at-home mom.

“I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you,” Butker told female graduates.

“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world,” he added.
