A former Bad Boy Records artist confirms longstanding rumors that Sean “Puffy” Combs and his manservant Fonzworth Bentley were lovers.
Battle rapper Freddy P (Da Band) confirmed the rumors in an interview with The Art of Dialogue podcast. Freddy recalled an incident that he heard from a friend who interrupted a steamy session between Combs and allegedly Bentley in a bedroom. He didn’t name Bentley, but he dropped enough hints.
At one point, Combs and Bentley were inseparable. They traveled the world together. And Bentley famously carried Combs’ umbrella on holiday in Saint-Tropez.
Freddy P recalled the conversation he had with his friend about the encounter with Combs and another man.
“He said, long story short, I went to the security guard told him how important it was. He let me in the room, and when I came in the room, I seen Puffy bussin’… they was getting it in. And he said that’s kinda like why I never spread his secrets — I can’t even say it ’cause you gonna know who I’m talking about,” Freddy said.
“But he just told me that’s why everything started falling for me. Everything started happening good with me. That’s why me and his relationship still cool.”
Freddy P said Combs’ arrest on sex trafficking charges was “long overdue.”
“When I heard about it, I was shocked, but at the same time, it felt like it was bound to happen,” Freddy said. He always thought Combs’s luck would run out. “I told my brother, they got a chopper on him. They can put a chopper underground; they can hire Puff, but it’s been long overdue,” Freddy said.
Freddy said Combs’s actions over the years forced the authorities to step in. “It got to the point where people were questioning if the feds were even doing their job. He got away with too much,” he said. “A lot of stuff Puffy is going through, and I don’t wish bad on him. But it’s sensitive because there are a lot of victims here.”
Freddy said Combs struggled with his sexual identity. “Everything he’s going through right now is because he couldn’t live his truth. The more he tried to hide, the worse it got.”
He said Combs preyed on male artists who were financially strapped. “That’s how easy it is to gain leverage over people.”
“Imagine Puffy, playboy, telling these artists who were struggling financially, ‘Don’t worry about it, come with me to the island, playboy.’ He’d offer you things to keep up a lifestyle,” Freddy said. “It’s a lot of rappers out here who got secrets because they fell into the situation with Puffy.”
Freddy P continued:
“I know about Stevie J… I know your business… I’m in the circle. I know about y’all. Y’all confirmed,” he said, referring to bisexual music producer Steven Jordan.
“Even with Stevie J, when you got secrets out there of a lifestyle and you know the lifestyle you’re really living, it’s a community out there that really know you.”
