The White House has denied a report that President Joe Biden is stepping down amid health issues.
Biden, 81, tested positive for Covid-19 in Las Vegas on Wednesday. His doctor said Biden experienced mild upper respiratory symptoms. He seemed weak and had difficulty walking up the short steps on Air Force One.
Biden is now resting at his home in Delaware, where he continues his duties as president.
A senior Democratic adviser tells CNN that Biden is considering stepping down, and that he might announce his decision on Friday, July 19.
Meanwhile, New York magazine’s recent issue has sparked outrage among Biden’s supporters.
The cover depicts former President Donald Trump and President Biden on the cover in their underwear.
“Catch up on our new Health Issue, featuring medical breakthroughs and scandals, plus one political convulsion: the president’s seeming deterioration,” reads the caption on Instagram.
Trump, 78, was shot in the right ear during an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
“I got lucky,” Trump said at a private event during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
“This has been our best campaign, and then I got shot! How does that happen? But I got lucky. God was with me, I tell you,” Trump added.
He continued:
“That’s what they call a close call… In many ways it changes your attitude, your viewpoint on life. And I think honestly, I think you appreciate God even more, I really do, because something happened. Not that it was pleasant. It wasn’t like it was a complete miss.”
Democrats are outraged over the “disrespectful” magazine cover.
One person wrote: “What a disgusting decision to make this a cover. We can now point to the media’s contribution of making the US a joke to the world.”
A second person wrote: “This is wildly disrespectful, I can only assume was done with AI and makes me worried for the precedent set here. Did both parties give consent?”
