Former NBA star Glen “Big Baby” Davis has been sentenced to 40 months in prison for his role in a fraud scheme.
On Thursday, a federal judge sentenced Davis to 40 months in prison plus three years’ supervised release.
The sentencing hearing followed his Nov. 2023 conviction for defrauding the league’s health care benefits plan.
Davis, who helped the Boston Celtics win the 2008 championship, was also ordered to pay $80,000 in restitution.
More than 20 people, including former NBA players Terrence Williams and Keyon Dooling, have been sentenced in the case.
Former Celtics star Terrence Williams was sentenced in August to 10 years in prison for his role in defrauding the NBA’s health plan out of $5 million.
Prosecutors say Williams was the ringleader who recruited other retired players to file fraudulent medical claims from 2017 to 2020. He took a cut of their proceeds.
Former NBA center Gregory Smith submitted false claims for a root canal and crowns on Dec. 20, 2018 in Beverly Hills. However, Smith wasn’t in California at the time of the dental work. He was playing for Taiwan’s Super Basketball League.
