Katy Perry says her mom was fooled by a fake photo that showed her attending the 2024 Met Gala in New York City on Monday.
Katy re-posted the AI-generated photo on her Instagram page along with the caption “couldn’t make it to the MET, had to work”.
The image showed the pop singer keeping with the 2024 Met Gala theme, The Garden of Time. This year’s Met Gala Celebrated “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday night.
In one fake image, Katy wore a lush flowery skirt with a gold corset and key breastplate. The image went viral with over 6 million views.
Another fake photo shows the pop star wearing a long floral gown with pop art flowers and a hem made of synthetic grass.

Katy said her mom saw one of the fake photos online, the BBC reported.
Rihanna also skipped the Met Gala, but her fans were conned by an AI-generated image that showed her on the green carpet last night.
The beauty guru and retired singer wore a gorgeous embroidered gown with gigantic circular sleeves. The gown was adorned with colorful flowers, green branches and exotic birds.
According to People, the 36-year-old superstar was at home with the flu.

There was also a fake photo of British-Albanian singer Dua Lipa wearing an off-shoulder corseted gown.
Dua showed up late to the Met Gala wearing a different gown. But the fake images had already gone viral.
