Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis found herself trending on X.com (formerly Twitter) after her pregnant daughter’s arrest made headlines.
Kinaya Willis, 25, was arrested in Tyrone, Georgia on August 24. The news sent her mother’s name trending on X.com on Tuesday night.
According to her traffic citation obtained by DailyMail.com, Kinaya was pulled over for speeding while on her cell phone. It is illegal to use a cell phone while operating a vehicle on Georgia roads or highways.
Kinaya reportedly told police she was on the phone due to her mother calling her about her pregnancy.
The Tyrone police officer ran a license check and discovered Kinaya was driving on a revoked license. Kinaya’s license was revoked in May for speeding while driving on a suspended license.
Even though Kinaya didn’t present a license to the officer, she claimed she was unaware that her driver’s license was suspended or revoked.
She was then searched for weapons and handcuffed before being read her rights. Kinaya was charged with driving with a revoked and suspended license.
The traffic citation listed Kinaya as 5-ft-3 and 100 pounds — seriously underweight for a pregnant woman.
Fani Willis arrived to take possession of the vehicle, but Kinaya was not free to go.
Kinaya was eventually released after spending the night at the Tyrone jail, about 30 minutes south of Atlanta.
Her next court date is October 24, according to DailyMail.com.
The punishment for driving on a suspended license in Georgia is 2 days in jail, a fine of $500, and a 6 month extension of the suspension.
The punishment for driving on a revoked license is 10 days in jail and a fine of between $1,000 and $2,500.
Fani Willis is best known for her overly aggressive indictment of former President Donald Trump and 18 others in 2023.
Her RICO case against Trump stalled when it was determined that she was sleeping with the lead prosecutor Nathan Wade.
Wade resigned from the case on March 15, 2024.
