‘American Idol’ and Grammy-Award winner has a street named after her.
Fantasia received a key to the city of High Point, North Carolina, and a street named after her during a Juneteenth celebration.
The High Point native and American Idol winner was honored at the Juneteenth Welcome Home Celebration on Sunday, June 16.
Fantasia, 39, was given a key to the City by Mayor Pro Tem, Councilman Michael Holmes and City Manager Tasha Logan Ford, WFMY News 2 reported.
City officials posted a Facebook video showing Fantasia receiving her key to the city.
The video was captioned: “IT’S OFFICIAL!! High Point’s own Fantasia Barrino-Taylor receives a key to the city by Mayor Pro Tem, Councilman Michael Holmes and City Manager Tasha Logan Ford during today’s Juneteenth celebration!!”
The Grammy-winning singer repped Sigma Gamma Rho during the Juneteenth celebration.
Junteenth is a Texas holiday that became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021. The holiday is celebrated annually on June 19 by Southerners to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States.
