Hundreds of gay men were evicted from a Dallas hotel after a sorority group complained to hotel management about their attire.

According to The Advocate, hundreds of gay men attending the Daddyland circuit party were evicted from the Crowne Plaza Downtown Dallas. Hotel management went door-to-door handing out letters telling guests to leave the hotel by 6 p.m.

“The OWNER OF THE HOTEL is requesting you LEAVE [IMMEDIATELY]. You will get a refund for Saturday, July 6, 2024, and Sunday, July 7, 2024. Please move out BY 6 PM. ALL PARTIES & EVENTS ARE CANCELLED SATURDAY 7/6, SUNDAY 7/7, & MONDAY 7/8.”

The eviction caused chaos at the hotel, as guests scrambled to find other accommodations.

Terry Tognazzini, the hotel owner, told The Advocate the eviction was prompted by complaints from members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

He said the women complained about the lack of clothing on some of the Daddyland guests.

According to Tognazzini, between 30 and 40 members of the AKA sorority threatened to cancel reservations after encountering the men in the lobby.

AKA members are in town for their 71st Boule convention that runs from July 5-11.

Tognazzini said that some Daddyland guests were mostly undressed when in the public areas of the hotel.

But organizers of Daddyland denied the allegations.

An attendee told The Advocate that he witnessed AKA members and some of the gay men in the hotel lobby complimenting each other’s outfits. He said he didn’t notice anyone upset.

But Tognazzini said his decision was driven by a need to protect the hotel’s reputation.

“We have rules here for clothes, and they’re supposed to wear their clothes, and they didn’t wear their clothes,” Tognazzini told The Advocate.

Kayvon Sohrabi, a clothing designer and vendor at the event, said scantily clad women walked around the hotel public areas wearing bikinis.

“A pool party at the hotel had women dressed in bikini tops and bottoms walking through the lobby, and nobody seemed to care. But gay men in short shorts and tank tops led to a mass eviction,” Sohrabi told The Advocate.

The Advocate contacted AKA for comment but did not receive a response. Vice President Kamala Harris, an AKA member, is scheduled to speak at the sorority’s convention on Wednesday.
