16X WWE champion John Cena announced his retirement from pro wrestling in 2025. The wrestler turned actor announced his surprise retirement during World Wrestling Entertainment’s “Money in the Bank” event on Saturday in Toronto.

Cena’s announcement was met with boos. He thanked viewers “for letting me play in the house that you built for so many years.”

Cena said he plans to do between 30 to 40 dates through 2025 before retiring. He has considered retirement before and during the press conference said the timing is now.

“People say they’re walking away, and two years later they come back,” he said. “I want to set the record straight right now: I’m done. This is it.”

Cena has starred in movies such as “Barbie,” “The Suicide Squad”, and the “Fast & Furious” franchise.

Cena, 47, follows over 824,000 people on X/Twitter, where he has over 14 million followers.

“Grateful beyond words … 2025 will be full of incredible events around the world,” Cena tweeted on Sunday.
