Kevin Liles is stepping down as chief executive officer of 300 Entertainment, the music exec announced on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Liles made the announcement less than 24 hours after hip-hop mogul Sean Combs was indicted on sex trafficking, transportation to engage in prostitution, racketeering conspiracy, and arson charges in New York City.
Combs was arrested at the Hyatt Park Hotel in Midtown Manhattan on Monday, Sept. 16. The news that more arrests are expected sent shock waves through the music industry.
The news caused Combs’ associates to lock down their social media accounts and book one-way plane tickets to Bali.
300 Entertainment’s artist roster includes rappers Megan Thee Stallion, Gunna, Migos, Fetty Wap and Young Thug, and others.
In an internal note to staff obtained by Billboard, Liles said he will depart as CEO of the Warner Music-owned label at the end of the month. He will stay on as a consultant until the end of the year.
Sources told Billboard that other 300 Entertainment executives are leaving as well.
You may recall Liles became emotional in court as he testified during rapper Young Thug’s bond hearing in Atlanta in 2022.
Liles wiped away tears as he told Superior Court Judge Ural D. Glanville that he viewed Young Thug as a son.
Liles promised to put up $1 million of his own money to pay off-duty police officers to monitor Young Thug on house arrest. But Judge Glanville declined his offer.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis accused Young Thug and his YSL associates of committing over 50 murders and gun violence across Atlanta.
