Gospel singer Le’Andria Johnson was arrested on public drunkenness charges in Greenville, SC, following an outburst at a local bar on Monday.
Greenville police received a call from BrickTop’s restaurant about a customer busting up the place and “screaming at patrons” in the city’s downtown area.
Johnson left the restaurant and walked down the street, “screaming profanities at a male who was walking with her,” according to a police report.
When approached by police, Johnson handed her styrofoam cup to the male who tried to hide it, according to the report.
Police observed “multiple signs that she was heavily intoxicated” — the scent of alcohol, slurred speech and unstable posture — officers confirmed the cup contained alcohol and “disposed” of it.
Police took Johnson into custody around 3 p.m. and charged her with public intoxication and possession of an open container. After drying out in jail overnight, Johnson was released the next day and given a personal recognizance bond.
Fans were shocked by the news of Johnson’s arrest, because she appeared on “Iyanla” and she seemed to be on the road to sobriety.
The “Sunday Best” winner thanked her fans and loved ones in a video on the Larry Reid Live YouTube channel.
“To all of my family, my friends, and my supporters, thank you so much for your continued prayers and love,” Johnson said. “I’m just taking this time now to really just ‘woo-sah.’”
“This has been a daily walk for me for some time now and I’m yet still growing,” she continued.
Johnson added, “Just keep me lifted. I’ll get through this.”
