Master P wrote an open letter to Jay Z, the NFL, and the mayor of New Orleans to complain about leaving Lil Wayne out of the Super Bowl halftime show.

On Sunday, rapper Kendrick Lamar announced he was the halftime entertainment for Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans on Feb. 9, 2025.

In his letter, Master P told the NFL, Jay Z and Mayor LaToya Cantrell that Lil Wayne is a better choice for the Super Bowl since he’s from New Orleans.

Master P was disappointed that Jay Z, who produces the Super Bowl halftime shows, chose an outsider to perform in his city.

The recording executive stressed that Lil Wayne should at least be included in Kendrick’s Super Bowl Halftime show.

Master P wrote:

“Salute to Kendrick Lamar for performing at the halftime show at Super Bowl LIX.. well deserved, he’s one of the hottest music artists in the world and has one of the biggest songs right now. As Ambassador of Entertainment in the City of New Orleans I have to agree with the fans that Lil Wayne should be a part of this celebration as well. He’s one of the greatest Hip Hop artists alive, still relevant and he’s a New Orleans native. Let’s not miss this cultural moment in the South. Life is too short! We have to give our legends their flowers while they are here. #Godisgood Change starts with us. @nfl
@jayz
@mayorcantrell.”

Super Bowl fans were surprised that Jay Z picked a rapper who is virtually unknown outside of hip-hop.

Lil Wayne’s music catalog runs circles around Kendrick, who is only known for one song – his divisive “Not Like Us” Drake diss track.
