Mystery surrounds the disappearance of a Chicago woman who went missing during a yoga retreat in the Bahamas.
Taylor Casey vanished on June 19 after she traveled to the Bahamas to attend a yoga retreat.
She was last seen on Paradise Island in Nassau, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said. The organizers of the retreat asked Bahamian police to investigate her disappearance.
Casey’s cell phone was found in the ocean, but her personal belongings were left behind at the retreat.
“We have spoken to a number of persons at the retreat and we are going to continue,” Police Chief Chrislyn Skippings said Wednesday.
Skippings also said Casey’s family members traveled to the Bahamas to help in the search. Searchers have deployed drones, a canine unit and divers.
Casey’s family said they are “deeply concerned” for her safety.
“I believe Taylor is in danger because she was eager to share her yoga retreat experience with others upon her return,” Casey’s mother, Colette Seymore said in a statement. “Taylor would never disappear like this.”
Seymore said her daughter was not suicidal.
“Taylor is an intelligent, deeply caring, thoughtful, and joyful person. She has been practicing yoga for 15 years and went to the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat as part of a long-term goal to deepen her yoga practice,” the family said. “She was excited to be participating in the yoga teacher training program and looking forward to sharing her experience with others when she returned.”
