A Philadelphia woman who set a man on fire is facing attempted murder charges, and the man is in ICU fighting for his life.
The incident happened on the 5400 block of Lansdowne Avenue in the city’s Overbrook neighborhood around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Police say the woman and her boyfriend arrived home to find the man in bed with her 18-year-old daughter.
Officers say the mother’s boyfriend shot at the 40-year-old victim but missed. The mother of the 18-year-old girl poured flammable liquid on the man and set him on fire.
Witnesses say the victim was on fire as he ran from the apartment screaming, “Help me!”
Cars stopped and drivers got out to pour water on the blazing man. The victim suffered critical injuries, including 2nd- and 3rd-degree burns to his upper torso.
Two suspects – a 35-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man – are in police custody.
The names of the victim and the suspects have not been released. Police recommend that the prosecutor charge them both with attempted murder, aggravated assault, arson, and weapons charges.
The teenager was not charged. 18 is above the legal age of consent in Philadelphia.
