Pete Buttigieg says he’s “probably” on Kamala Harris’ short list of running mates.
In an interview with Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show” on Monday, Buttigieg admitted he will probably be Harris’ vice presidential pick.
Stewart asked Buttigieg directly if he’s being vetted to be Harris’ vice president.
“You know, all I should say about it is that she’s is going to make this decision. She’s got a process to help her make this decision,” he said.
Stewart interrupted him, “Oh my god you’re being vetted!” Stewart said, as his studio audience laughed.
“Probably,” Buttigieg agreed.
“What I’ll say is, no matter what the flying formation is going to be, I’m really excited to be part of this. I’m excited to be part of this campaign,” Buttigieg added.
Buttigieg compared the vetting process to trying to adopt children with life partner, Chasten Glezman.
“It was kind of the same thing, but with a social worker instead of a white-shoe law firm,” Buttigieg explained.
The Democrats are a party of firsts; the first Black president, the first female vice president, the first gay vice president.
So it should come as no surprise when Harris names Buttigieg as her running mate as early as Sunday.
If Harris is elected president — and anything happens to her — Buttigieg will become the first gay president in American history.
And Democrats will rejoice.
