PNB Rock’s teenage shooter is declared “incompetent” to stand trial. A California judge ruled Friday that the 17-year-old is not competent due to a lack of mental capacity to understand the trial proceedings.
Freddie Lee Trone and his 40-year-old wife are also charged in the Sept. 2022 shooting death of the aspiring rapper, born Rakim Allen.
Rock, 30, was gunned down at a Los Angeles restaurant where he and his girlfriend Stephanie were eating lunch.
Prosecutors say Trone, 42, dropped his son off near the strip mall where Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles is located. The teenager went inside the restaurant and approached Rock’s table.
According to prosecutors, the teen said, “Give me all of your jewelry, now!” He then shot PnB Rock in the chest. As PnB Rock fell to the floor, the teen allegedly shot him twice more in the back, prosecutors said.
He then turned to Stephanie and yelled, “Show me your hands! Give me that shit right now! I swear to God! I shoot you in the head!” He snatched her watch and then grabbed PnB Rock’s jewelry.
Prosecutors say Freddie Lee Trone was the getaway driver. After fleeing the crime scene, they torched the car to get rid of evidence, prosecutors alleged.
Another man, Tremont Jones, 46, is accused of tipping off Trone and his son to Allen’s whereabouts the day of the deadly shooting.
In surveillance video, Jones is seen wearing a red shirt outside the restaurant as Trone and his son drove up.
Jones didn’t know Rock and Stephanie, but he noticed them when they walked from their white Mercedes to the front of Roscoe’s “wearing about half a million dollars in jewelry, sparkling in the sun,” according to prosecutors.
Rock knew he was in gang territory, but he believed they were safe because he “checked in”.
