There was growing pressure on Biden to drop out of the race after his disastrous debate with former President Donald Trump in June.
Newsmax was first to report that Biden would announce he is dropping out of the race on Sunday.
Biden, 81, is isolating at home in Delaware after testing positive for his third bout of Covid-19 in Las Vegas last week.

Former President Barack Obama reportedly told Bidenโs camp that he doesnโt see a path forward for Biden in the November 2024 election.

Vice President Harris will likely choose California Gov. Gavin Newsom as her running mate. But Washington sources say Hillary Clinton is also in the running.
Harris, 59, could become the first Indian-American and female president in U.S. history.

The news that Biden has dropped out in favor of Harris comes after the president told BET he can no longer โwalk through the projectsโ and โblack neighborhoods on foot.โ
โI would ordinarily be going through black neighborhoods on the ground, on foot, walking through neighborhoods,โ he said. โI have a tradition, I close every campaignโฆ going into the projects and going on the eastside. But I canโt do that now โ not because of the Black community. Because itโs too dangerous for me to be out walking unaccompanied.โ
Biden made the statement after former President Trump was shot during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13. Trump miraculously survived the assassination attempt. A bullet grazed Trumpโs right ear and he will require plastic surgery.
