Pop star Rihanna revealed she lost her hair after giving birth to sons RZA, 2, and Riot Rose, born August 2023.

In an interview with Refinery29, the beauty guru said her type of hair loss was unexpected.

“I didn’t expect it to happen in waves. I thought it would just happen and grow back,” she said during the Fenty Hair launch party in Los Angeles.

Rihanna, 36, rocked her natural curls while stepping out for a late night dinner in Santa Monica on Friday, June 14.

The American Academy of Dermatology Association tells theGrio.com that postpartum hair loss is normal.

“This is normal — and it is not true hair loss. The good news is that this excessive shedding is temporary, and you do not have to do anything to remedy it.”

Postpartum hair loss is caused by a steep decline in pregnancy hormones estrogen and progesterone after giving birth.

It is not true hair loss because the high levels of pregnancy hormones causes hair to grow thick during pregnancy.

The American Academy of Dermatology Association says the hair will grow back in about a hair. But some women take hormone supplements to keep their hair from shedding after pregnancy.

Other women reported temporary alopecia after giving birth.

The National Institutes of Health explains, this “diffuse alopecia” typically begins about 2 to four months after giving birth and can last from six months to a year.
