A Maryland teenager who attempted to kill a child on a school bus last year was sentenced on Friday.

17-year-old Kaeden “Baby K” Holland pled guilty to attempted first-degree murder earlier this year. A judge sentenced him to 60 years in prison with all but 25 years of his sentence suspended.

Baby K was only 15 years old when he and 2 masked males boarded a Prince George’s County school bus on May 1, 2023.

Baby K pointed a handgun at a 14-year-old middle school student and pulled the trigger three times. But the gun jammed. He then pistol whipped the child. The boy was treated for minor injuries.

On May 30, 2023 U.S. marshals arrested Baby K. He was charged as an adult with attempted first-degree murder, assault, gun possession and other felony counts.

Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy said in a statement: “It’s our right in this community to be safe, to work and to live freely without the fear of being harmed. The school bus driver, aide and teenage victim will forever be traumatized by what they experienced on that school bus.”

Two boys, ages 14 and 15, and a girl, 14, were also charged in the case. Prosecutors described the teenage girl as the “mastermind” behind the school bus attack. The three juveniles were tried as adults.

The victim and his mother have since moved out of the area.

The school bus driver testified that she still suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Sources say Baby K is also a suspect in a Washington, D.C. homicide.

23-year-old Kaijah McCoy was found shot to death in an apartment building in Northeast DC. Police said she was killed 2 days after the school bus attack.

Michael Lawlor, Baby K’s attorney, said his client is a victim himself. He said Baby K grew up in a single-parent household in a gang-infested neighborhood.

“I feel as though it’s a cruel trick that gets played on so many young people, through no fault of your own,” Lawlor said. “That’s what was handed to you, and so you might slip up. When you slip up, you get to go to jail for 25 years.”
