The Root deleted a social media post that drew backlash for comparing rapper Megan Thee Stallion to music producer Sean Combs.
Megan’s former cameraman, Emilio Garcia filed a lawsuit alleging she forced him to watch her have sex with another woman.
The complaint claimed the incident happened “On or around June 2022,” while Garcia was traveling with Stallion on tour in Ibiza.
According to the complaint:
“After a night out, PLAINTIFF, STALLION, and three other women were riding in a SUV together. Suddenly, STALLION and one of the other women start having sex right beside PLAINTIFF. PLAINTIFF could not get out of the car as it was both moving and he was in the middle of nowhere in a foreign country. PLAINTIFF was embarrassed, mortified and offended throughout the whole ordeal.”
Megan’s attorney Alex Spiro said in a statement to People.com:
“This is an employment claim for money — with no sexual harassment claim filed and with salacious accusations to attempt to embarrass her. We will deal with this in court.”
Combs, also known as “Puffy” and “Diddy”, has been sued multiple times for sexual harassment. In the latest lawsuit, music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones accused Combs of drugging and groping him in a complaint filed in NYC in February.
The Root’s social media post featured the caption: “Is Megan Thee Stallion the Female Diddy? Crazy Sexual Harassment Allegations Show We Never Know Celebs.”
The Root’s followers slammed the outlet for comparing the two cases.
“The two situations are NOTHING ALIKE AT ALL,” one follower wrote. “To make these kinds of incorrect and unequal comparisons in a situation like this is absolutely gross and journalistic malpractice. Stop trying to be like Bossip and have some [damn] decorum.”
Another person wrote: “The Root wrote an inflammatory headline about Megan Thee Stallion [because] they knew [people] would quote tweet it with disgust. They’ve been going downhill for a few years now. Desperation breeds depravity.”
