Comedian and actor TK Kirkland breaks down why men shouldn’t be stepfathers or take on the responsibilities of other men.
TK, 63, is best known for his performances on Laffapalooza and BET’s Comicview.
In a recent discussion with Vlad, TK shared his views on why men should avoid taking on the role of stepfathers.
TK says there are “downfalls” to raising another man’s kids.
“The downfalls is you could put another man’s kids through school… you can do a lot of good things. And on your deathbed, the kid don’t like you so much, he won’t even come see you.”
TK continued: “It could get so bad that when, if the mother leaves and you took care of that kid – because that kid don’t feel obligated to you – he could drop you off at assisted living.”
TK said a friend was depressed and financially burdened after taking care of his girlfriend’s children. He suggested that men can naïvely enter into these relationships, driven by desire and infatuation without considering the full extent of the commitment.
Vlad reflected on his own uncomfortable experience dating a woman with a child.
They conclude that many people are fearful of being alone or meeting new partners. Loneliness can lead men to repeat a cycle of damaging relationships and accepting responsibilities that they are not mentally and financially prepared for.
