Vice President Kamala Harris admitted to being Indian in a video with Indian actress Mindy Kaling. The video was recorded during Harris’ first presidential run in 2020.
In the video filmed in Kaling’s kitchen, the two women bond over Indian food.
“Okay so what we’re going to cook today is an Indian recipe because you are Indian. And I don’t know that everybody knows that,” said Kaling.
“But I find that wherever I go – and I see Indian people at the supermarket, on the street – everyone’s like, ‘You know Kamala Harris is Indian, right?’ It’s like our thing we’re so excited about to have you running for president,” Kaling added.
Kaling clarified that they are both sub-Indians from Southeast Asia.
Harris told Kaling that she looked like “the entire one-half of my family.”
“Thank you. I’ve been telling people we’re related already,” Kaling laughed.
On Wednesday, ABC’s Rachel Scott grilled former President Donald Trump at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) conference.

Scott asked Trump about referencing Harris as a “DEI hire.”
“I’ve known her a long time, indirectly, not directly, very much, and always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage,” Trump said. “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black Indian. Or is she Black?”
