WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump announced today that the United States military has destroyed a large drug-carrying submarine attempting to reach U.S. shores along a known narcotrafficking route.
In a statement released by the White House, President Trump said the vessel was intercepted and neutralized following intelligence confirmation that it was carrying large quantities of fentanyl and other illegal narcotics.
“It was my great honor to destroy a very large DRUG-CARRYING SUBMARINE that was navigating towards the United States on a well-known narcotrafficking transit route,” President Trump said.
“U.S. Intelligence confirmed this vessel was loaded up with mostly Fentanyl, and other illegal narcotics. There were four known narcoterrorists on board the vessel. Two of the terrorists were killed. At least 25,000 Americans would die if I allowed this submarine to come ashore.”
According to the President, two of the four traffickers were killed, while the two surviving suspects are being returned to their home countries — Ecuador and Colombia — for detention and prosecution.
Trump added that no U.S. forces were harmed during the strike, which was carried out under his authority as Commander-in-Chief.
“Under my watch, the United States of America will not tolerate narcoterrorists trafficking illegal drugs, by land or by sea,” Trump stated.
The operation marks one of the most significant interdictions of narcotics under the Trump administration, reflecting an ongoing push to disrupt transnational drug networks operating through the Caribbean and Pacific corridors.
Further details on the mission’s execution and intelligence coordination are expected to be released by the Department of Defense and U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) in the coming days.
