Jamaican Dancehall legend Vybz Kartel has been denied bail, despite having his murder conviction overturned in March.
Vybz, born Adidja Palmer, was convicted a decade ago in the kidnapping and murder of his associate Clive “Lizard” Williams in Jamaica. Williams’ body was never found.

Kartel and 2 of three accused men were expected to be released from a Jamaican jail on May 30. But a High Court judge in the UK denied Kartel’s release on Friday, May 31.
The Privy Council in the UK also ordered the Jamaican government to pay the legal bills of Kartel and the 3 men convicted with him.
A retrial for Kartel and his co-accused, Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St. Johns is set to begin on June 10 in Jamaica.
Dancehall fans believe Kartel’s bond was denied due to his negative influence on young women. Kartel’s lyrics are so explicit that his songs are banned on American radio.
