Remy Ma spoke out about her son Jayson Scott’s first-degree murder charges. Scott, 23, is currently in jail without bond following his arrest Tuesday in connection with a 2021 shooting.
“We stand by Jayson’s innocence and pray that the NYPD will conduct a complete and thorough investigation to reveal the truth. This is undoubtedly a difficult time for my family and me,” Remy Ma said in a statement to TMZ.
“While we sincerely appreciate the love and support we have received from all of you, we kindly ask for privacy as our legal team works to prove Jayson’s innocence,” Remy said.
Scott and an accomplice, Richard Swygert, 22, allegedly shot Darius Guillebeaux, 47, on a street corner in South Jamaica, Queens on June 7, 2021.
Police believe the shooting was a murder-for-hire plot.
The Internet says the victim was a cousin of Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenny “Zoo” Petty.
Scott faces first-degree murder and weapons charges. He is represented by celebrity lawyer Dawn Florio.
Florio also defended “Bling” Bishop Lamor Whitehead, who was sentenced on Monday to serve 9 years in prison on financial fraud charges.
Remy Ma, 44, explained Florio “strongly advised” her “not to say anything” about her son’s case. But she said she had to defend her son’s innocence.
Remy, real name Reminisce Smith, gave birth to Scott in 2000. They appeared together in a 2016 episode of VH1 reality TV series “Love & Hip-Hop: NY.”
Remy also has a daughter Reminisce, 5, whom she shares with husband Papoose.
