A man jumped on stage and shoved a district superintendent aside before he could shake his daughter’s hand.
The incident happened during Baraboo High School’s graduation ceremony on Friday, May 31.
Cell phone video shows a man rush on stage and shove district Superintendent Rainey Briggs out of the way before he could shake the man’s daughter’s hand.
“That’s my daughter,” the man could be heard saying off camera.
“You better get up off me, man,” Briggs replied. “Get away from me, bro!”
Several staffers approached the two men as they quarreled off camera.
“I don’t want her touching him,” the man said.
Another man is heard saying, “Hey, hey, hey!” and “knock it off.”
The man, who is white, didn’t have a problem with the other staffers shaking his daughter’s hand.
Briggs was the only Black person on the stage.
Three Baraboo police officers and a school resource officer arrived to escort the man off the stage and out of the building.
District spokesperson Hailey Wagner said the man will be charged with disorderly conduct.
“We would like to emphasize that the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community members is a top priority,” Wagner said.
