Georgia man whose mugshot went viral is killed in Tennessee

Murfreesboro PD

A Georgia man whose mugshot went viral last week was gunned down in Tennessee on Wednesday during a dispute over a car.

Juan Charco, of Antioch, and his brother, Alberto Charco, were towing a red Chrysler 300 when they stopped at a Murfreesboro gas station on Wednesday.

According to the Murfreesboro Police Department, 23-year-old Devon Loritts, of Marietta Georgia, and his brother — pulled up in a Mercedes and began arguing with the Charco brothers. The argument escalated and gunshots rang out.

Police say Loritts was shot multiple times and died at a local hospital. Loritts’ brother was shot in the arm and is listed in stable condition.

Juan Charco was charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. He is being held in the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $1.5 million bond.

Alberto Charco was questioned by police and released.

Investigators say the argument arose over the disputed ownership of the Chrysler 300.

Alberto told police they towed the car from Georgia after it had been abandoned. According to Alberto, their Ford F-150 pickup truck overheated while towing the car. So they stopped at the gas station to let it cool down.

“These guys pulled up, and one of them had a ski mask for sure,” Alberto said, “and the other, I’m not sure if his face was covered or not, but one of them had an AR rifle and the other one had a pistol in his hand.”

Authorities say Loritts had previously purchased the car from Juan Charco. Officials said the brothers repossessed the Chrysler 300 in Georgia and Loritts tracked the car to the 7-Eleven Exxon in Tennessee.
