Elon Musk has threatened to ban Apple devices from his companies if Apple integrates “creepy software” into their operating systems.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is software that scrapes the Internet for information, videos and images.
Apple announced on Monday that the company is partnering with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into users’ phones, iPads and laptops.
Musk tweeted: “It’s patently absurd that Apple isn’t smart enough to make their own AI, yet is somehow capable of ensuring that OpenAI will protect your security & privacy!”
He added: “Apple has no clue what’s actually going on once they hand your data over to OpenAI. They”re selling you down the river.”
AI will be integrated into every app in Apple’s operating systems. For example, AI will read all emails and place urgent emails in the Priority Messages section at the top of the Inbox. Users can see email summaries without needing to open an email.
OpenAI launched 2 years ago. But it hasn’t caught on with the public at large. It seems Apple is forcing AI on all users.
“We’re excited to partner with Apple to bring ChatGPT to their users in a new way,” said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. “Together with Apple, we’re making it easier for people to benefit from what AI can offer.”
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, said: “It’s personal, powerful, and private — and it’s integrated into the apps you rely on every day.”
Musk responded by tweeting: “I don’t want it. Either stop this creepy spyware or all Apple devices will be banned from the premises of my companies.”
In a follow-up post, Musk wrote, “If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies. That is an unacceptable security violation. And visitors will have to check their Apple devices at the door, where they will be stored in a Faraday cage.”

A Faraday cage is a box or pouch that blocks phone signals.
