Megachurch Pastor and best-selling author Tony Evans is stepping down due to a “sin” he committed years ago.

Evans announced Sunday that he was stepping down from his pulpit as pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas.

He was pastor at the church for 46 years. The announcement was posted on the church’s website.

Evans didn’t explain the “sin” he committed years ago. But some on social media speculated that he cheated on his wife of 49 years, Lois, who died of cancer at age 70 in 2019.

Evans, 74, proposed to Dr. Carla Crummie (pictured below) in 2023. They were married that same year.

Evans and his late wife shared four adult children.

Evans’ son Jonathan played for the Buffalo Bills, the Washington Redskins, and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL.

Another son Anthony Jr. is a contemporary-Christian singer who appeared as a contestant on Season 2 of “The Voice.”

Evans’ daughter Priscilla Shirer is a New York Times Best-Selling Author and Christian speaker.

Evans, a Democrat, donated to former President Barack Obama’s campaign. In 2012 he publicly criticized Obama for his support of same-sex marriage.
