WBC Expels Boxer Ryan Garcia After Racist Livestream

The World Boxing Council (WBC) expelled controversial boxer Ryan Garcia after he used racial slurs during a livestream.

Garcia, 25, disparaged Black people, Muslims, and the late George Floyd during the hour-long rant.

“I hate n*****s. I’m anti-Black,” Garcia allegedly said, before another man declared he is the “leader of KKK.”

“Naw n*****, I’m KKK,” Garcia said. “Let’s go bring George Floyd back to life and kill the n***** again,” he added.

Some boxing fans defended Garcia, who is white. One fan said the boxer was high on drugs. While another fan called his racist rant “a cry for help.”

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman announced Garcia’s expulsion Thursday on X/Twitter.

“We reject any form of discrimination,” Sulaiman tweeted. “I fear for Ryan well being as he has declined multiple attempts for our help with mental health and substance abuse.”

Garcia took to X/Twitter to apologize, saying, “I was trolling I want all the killing to stop. I love everyone sorry if I offended you.”

Garcia is better known for his controversial behavior outside the ring. He is pictured with boxer Gervonta Davis during a face-off at their pre-match press conference on March 9, 2023.

Garcia is already serving a one-year suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission after he tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug ostarine. The suspension overturned Garcia’s April 20 victory over boxer Devin Haney.

In a statement, Garcia’s family said his behavior and remarks “do not align with his, or our family’s, true character or beliefs.”

“Our family unequivocally does not support any statements [Garcia] has made regarding race or religion — these do not reflect who Ryan truly is and how he was raised,” the family’s statement read.
