Lenny Kravitz is celibate and hasn’t dated anyone in nine years. The revelation comes days after the 59-year-old rocker told Good Morning America‘s Gayle King he was ready to settle down.
Speaking with The Guardian, Kravitz, who turned 60 on May 26, said he was afraid he was becoming like his father, NBC news producer Sy Kravitz.
Kravitz was heartbroken when he learned his father cheated on his mother Roxie Roker, best known for her role on the TV sitcom “The Jeffersons.”
Kravitz admits that his father said he would end up being just like him.
“He became right,” said Kravitz — whose marriage to actress Lisa Bonet ended in divorce in 1993.
“After the marriage, I became more like him. I was becoming a player,” he said.
“I didn’t like it. I didn’t want to be that guy. So I had to tackle that and it took years… by taking responsibility. Discipline. Not letting my own desires take over.”
Kravitz said his discipline eventually led him to live a life of celibacy for nine years.
“It’s a spiritual thing,” he said of his abstinence. “I have become very set in my ways, in the way I live.”
Kravitz says working out daily helps him to stay fit and keep his mind off sex.
In his interview with Gayle King, Kravitz confirmed he is currently single and open to settling down.
“You know, when you desire something you’re looking for it, right? But I find that when you don’t look is when you find it,” he said. “And I’m at a place where I’ve said this for several years, ‘I’m ready. I’m ready. I’m ready.’”
Kravitz acknowledged that he wasn’t ready when he was married to “Cosby” star Lisa Bonet. They share a daughter, Zoe Kravitz, 35.
“I wasn’t ready. I thought I was ready, right? But I can say that I’ve never felt how I feel now,” he told King.
